"Never compare your journey with someone else's. It's a marathon with no finish line. Someone else may start out faster than you, may seem to progress more quickly than you, but every runner has his own pace. Your journey is your journey, not a competition. You will never "arrive". No one ever does."
I found this quote on ILP and straight away it appealed to me - I love looking at other photographers' photos - oohing and aahing over them, but I also love the style of photos that I take, and let's face it, I am not a professional by any means, but I think I do okay and get better every time I get my camera out. Well I hope so anyway!
I learn something new every day. (how cliche is that LOL)
Practice makes perfect.... although perfection is so over-rated!
Hi! My name is Mel Nott, and welcome to my photography blog!
My experience with photography first started many years ago when I would quite happily take snaps of anything and anyone, the result being me having dozens of boxes of photographs tucked away in my house, only ever to be looked at again when I am feeling that tug of nostalgia that we all experience.... thankfully in these times of digital photography a whole new world has opened up to me and I am falling in love with photography all over again. I love natural light photography, but am also dabbling in studio work.
After having my four children, who are my treasures, and being lucky enough to be married to a wonderful, supportive and devoted husband, I am now finding little windows of opportunity to explore and experiment with my photos. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I loved capturing them! They are moments that I never wish to forget.......
Capturing the essence of everday life - from pregnancy to birth, newborns, children & families! Professional portraits that reflect the true spirit of your family. Cherished memories never to be forgotten!
No need to purchase a single printed photograph! I charge a flat fee package and provide my clients with all images on cd/dvd. The value is just amazing! No over-priced photo packages or expensive reprints - just the gorgeous photos you want, as you want, when you want. And they are yours to keep!
I am based in Perth, so please feel free to email me at forget-me-nott@live.com if you would like to arrange a session.
Oh, and leave me a comment from time to time - I like to know I am not just talking to myself....

Little Miss C....
My niece is a cheeky little thing! I hadn't seen her for a couple of months - they were meant to come to Evan's birthday but Miss C fell over just before they were coming and split her right eyebrow open, which required glueing, so I haven't seen her since just after Christmas! She is a pure delight! And her little curls are getting curlier!
I love the above shot except for Layla's thong in the background!!! I could have cropped it out I suppose but it was late and I couldn't be bothered!

I was really pleased with this shoot, my sister is fortunate enough to have beautiful polished boards and loads of lovely light (very jealous!) so it made my job just so much easier!
Miss C is one of those little kids who is allergic to absolutely everything, and I take my hat off to my sister for dealing with this so well! Miss C is very lucky to have her as a mum, as am I to have her as a sister.

A few of my favs from today at the park
We are fortunate enough to live about 2 minutes walk to beautiful parkland (lake included!) so off we went with all the kids in tow (any excuse to take a photo!)
In the background is our local MCH Centre & community centre.
Evan telling me he is much much taller than me!Layla trying to hide behind a stick!
Pippa just because!

Just some shots.....
Most of these are SOOC - the only post-editing is auto contrast or greyscale.
Hey, who needs photoshop!! (I do, I do LOL) The trick is to take a good photo to begin with..... well I tried!
I must also mention that I *ahem* accidentally had the camera on the lowest image setting - basic and small - as I was just doing some basic other stuff and forgot to change it back, so the quality of them isn't that great, but you get the idea!

A nice shot of Layla - including her Nutella-smeared mouth!!!

Depth of field..... or something similar!

I got a bit artistic tonight and experimented (practiced!) some depth of field shots. They didn't turn out too bad!
f/11 ss 3, f/l 180mm, ISO 100, norm exp, auto w/b, taken under tungstan light at night

f/22 ss 7.1, f/l 190mm, ISO 100, norm exp, auto w/b, taken under tungstan light at night
Not bad for some old glass candle holders I had just lying around gathering dust! Only the first one has been greyscaled. No other post-editing.
