Practice makes perfect.... although perfection is so over-rated!

Hi! My name is Mel Nott, and welcome to my photography blog!

My experience with photography first started many years ago when I would quite happily take snaps of anything and anyone, the result being me having dozens of boxes of photographs tucked away in my house, only ever to be looked at again when I am feeling that tug of nostalgia that we all experience.... thankfully in these times of digital photography a whole new world has opened up to me and I am falling in love with photography all over again. I love natural light photography, but am also dabbling in studio work.

After having my four children, who are my treasures, and being lucky enough to be married to a wonderful, supportive and devoted husband, I am now finding little windows of opportunity to explore and experiment with my photos. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I loved capturing them! They are moments that I never wish to forget.......

Capturing the essence of everday life - from pregnancy to birth, newborns, children & families! Professional portraits that reflect the true spirit of your family. Cherished memories never to be forgotten!

No need to purchase a single printed photograph! I charge a flat fee package and provide my clients with all images on cd/dvd. The value is just amazing! No over-priced photo packages or expensive reprints - just the gorgeous photos you want, as you want, when you want. And they are yours to keep!

I am based in Perth, so please feel free to email me at forget-me-nott@live.com if you would like to arrange a session.

Oh, and leave me a comment from time to time - I like to know I am not just talking to myself....

Getting my camera

I am going to go and pick it up - I mean I really do need it for my course next week, I think I would look a bit stupid rocking up to a photography course without a camera..... and as I don't envisage doing a hell of a lot of flash photography then I will just wait until after I complete the course to get it fixed.

I have another flash I can use with it if I get really desperate..... which let's face it is the story of my life LOL

Missing my camera

Sad I know, but true.... honestly every day that goes by I see at least 10 perfect opportunities for shots but alas - with no camera it makes it very difficult!

I actually resorted to my old digital but the batteries went flat :(

OMG I really need my camera back (and I hope it's nothing too serious.....)

Courses and Cash

Finally booked in to do the Complete Digital SLR course!! I am doing it with Jodes (lovely girly you are!) so we have a standing dinner date for the 7 weeks on a Tuesday.

On a sad note though, my camera is broken. Okay, okay, admittedly when I put my $2000 camera on the arm of the couch and Damo says "don't leave that there it will fall" and I ignore him, of course it is going to fall. Which it did. Right into the toy box. Then the flash stopped working. Which is okay if I am using natural light which is my newfound love, but indoors it is a bit crappy. Especially if one of the kidlets is doing something kinda cute and I just want to take a few happy snaps. So off to the camera shop we toodle - and $60 later (that's just for them to look at it!) my sexy beautiful camera is sent off to be looked at.

I do hope I get it back in time for my course....... they said it may take 2-4 weeks.

btw I have a Nikon D80 which I love! I also have two lenses (a small one and a big one - I won't go into technical detail as I find it quite boring), as well as a tripod. I also have 4gb of memory which means I can happily take photos and it is quite common for me to take over 300 photos in a session! I love Nikon cameras, probably because my first ever digital camera was a little Nikon, then we bought a Canon which was okay but it took me forever to remember how the bloody thing worked! and I couldn't get my head around the functions menu.... stupid I know but when we had a chance to upgrade I immediately wanted a Nikon - I find it lighter than the others but it is all personal preference of course! I love all cameras that take photos!

Which mine doesn't at the moment *sob sob* :(

I do hope I get that call soon to go and pick it up........

Once I figure out how to load some photos up onto here (I don't get much spare time - except when I am at work LOL) I will be back.
